31st Klubsieger: Germany Is Back On The Front Of The Stage
text by Franck Haymann, pictures RR

Since 1998, foreign breeders had been increasingly more present on the highest steps at the yearly ARDK championship in the different classes. When analysing the origins of the of the best dogs, one can note that this 2002 edition marked a come back of the ADRK tenors, and also that this year, foreign exhibitors were mostly… absent.
The ADRK Klubsieger Zuchtschau took place on the weekend of the 25th of August in the Lander of Kerpen-Blatzhzeim.
As usual, the jury was 100% made ARDK German judges. Last year, 367 dogs had entered the championship. There were also 6 breeding lots: 5 came from foreign countries, including the winner Van Het Falconsnest Kennel, from Belgium. This year, 254 dogs were entered, and 4 breeding lots, which were all German. The winner is not unknown, as it is Von Der Bleichstrasse Kennel, which finished first before the Von Der Königskanzel, Vom Vilstaler Land and Vom Fleischer Kennels. The latter was the most ancient kennel, with 35 years of selection.

 An unexpected winner
The Klubsieger Eddy Vom Hammerbachtal, born on September 20, 1998, finished best male. He also finished Best of breed, while for the last 5 years, the winner had always been a bitch, a Klubsiegerin. This choice was therefore quite a surprise for the audience. According to the results of the previous year, several dogs could have rightly claimed to the title, but nobody had bet on the name of this year’s winner. By looking at this dog’s list of achievements, one can’t see any title or spectacular victory. On the other hand, he has been always “placed” in the working class and obtained a particularly remarked Körung. His breeder, Walter Sonntag, is a user – Rottweiler, German Shepherd Dog and Malinois – who began in the breed with the bitch Face vom Hirschenrangen (Danjo Vom Schwaiger Wappen x Della Vom Hirschenrangen), Gekort bis EzA. Since 1985, he’s produced only 6 litters.
Eddy allows us to rediscover an en vogue line from the 90’s, but which had slightly decreased in popularity in the last years, that of Sieger Falco Von Der Tente. Eddy is issued from this line by his father Greif Vom Moritzberg Gekort bis EzA du KS 90 Ingo Vom Fusse Der Eifel Gekort bis EzA, himself a son of KS 84 Falco Von Der Tente Gekort. Eddy’s mother, Bonna Vom Hammerbachtal was a daughter of Orso Vom Kressbach.
Finally, Eddy, unlike many recent winners, is not a small dog: he is 67 tall at the withers and weighs a bit less than 50 kilos. And to confirm his hereditary potential, Eddy has always perfectly scored (never inferior to 280), in VPG1, 2 or 3.

Doc and Noris are still around
Despite his absence, one of the most used studs in Germany, Balou V Silberblick, still placed many of his descendants on the podiums, especially some of his daughters. One can also find several descendants from the famous litter in H “Von Hause Enzian” on the podiums. Thus, Noris V Grüntenblick and Doc V Teufeksbrücke can rest quietly: their bloodlines will still be active and present for a long time.
A last remark to conclude: the modest participation of the foreign breeders, and their results, which didn’t match their expectations and their real worth.
